  • Duncan Johnston-Watt (Chief Executive Officer)

Duncan is a serial entrepreneur and pioneer with thirty years’ experience in the software industry.

He founded Cloudsoft Corporation, creator of the Apache Brooklyn open source project, serving as its CEO for nine years. Previously he was founder and CTO of Enigmatec Corporation which was sold to iWave and subsequently acquired by EMC.

Prior to this he had a number of fintech roles. At Instinet he led the delivery of their Fixed Income brokerage platform. In recognition of this work pioneering the use of Java enterprise technologies in Financial Services he was nominated for a Computerworld Smithsonian Award.

  • Kevin O’Donnell (Chief Strategy Officer)

Kevin is co-founder of the DevOps platform Chill Code. He served as VP Infrastructure & Operations at JP Morgan from September 2012 until July 2016. Prior to this he served as VP Operations, Video Analytics at Nielsen following its acquisition of Glance Guide in March 2010 where he was VP Operations form December 2007.

Kevin has worked with Duncan at both Instinet Corporation where he was Director, Global Fixed Income Engineering and Enigmatec Corporation Limited where he served as VP, Product Management for four years.

Kevin has over 20 years’ experience delivering large-scale production systems, much of it gained on Wall Street, focusing on automation and operations. He holds a BA in Philosophy from Vanderbilt University.

  • Mike Zaccardo (Lead Blockchain Engineer)

Mike is a computer scientist, comedian, traveler, and dancer.

As a senior software engineer at Cloudsoft, he worked with Duncan deploying and managing bleeding edge open source distributed systems including Hyperledger Fabric.

Mike also enjoys performing improv comedy and traveling the world, making dance videos along the way.

He holds a B.S. in Computer Science from John Hopkins University.

Podcast Guest: Simon Crosby, CTO SWIM.AI

Simon Crosby brings an established record of technology industry success, most recently as co-founder and CTO of Bromium, a security technology company. At Bromium, Simon built a highly secure virtualized system to protect applications. Prior to Bromium, Crosby was the co-founder and CTO of XenSource before its acquisition by Citrix, and later served as the CTO of the Virtualization and Management Division at Citrix. Previously, Crosby was a principal engineer at Intel. Crosby was also the founder of CPlane, a network-optimization software vendor. Simon has been a tenured faculty member at the University of Cambridge. Simon Crosby was named one of InfoWorld’s Top 25 CTOs in 2007.

Matt Trifiro leads the company’s global marketing, branding and communications. He is a technology industry veteran and a serial entrepreneur, having co-founded or led over a half dozen startup companies. Prior to joining Vapor IO, he was entrepreneur in residence at Xseed Capital and chief marketing officer and senior vice president at Mesosphere. Prior to Mesosphere, Trifiro was chief marketing officer at Heroku, a division of Salesforce, and prior to that he served as senior vice president of marketing for Salesforce Desk.com. He was also a co-founder and CEO of e-commerce startup 1000 Markets (sold to Bonanza) and co-founder and vice president of marketing for interactive television pioneer Wink Communications (NASDAQ IPO). He currently holds advisory roles with venture-funded startups Buoyant and ListenLoop.

Rich Miller is CEO of Telematica, Inc., a holding company and consultancy with a practice in product strategy and business development for distributed computing technologies and their management; data governance, integration and monetization; and, increasingly, focus on distributed ledger technologies and industrial IoT.

Until mid-2017, he served as the non-executive Chairman of Cloudsoft Corp. Ltd. (Edinburgh).

Rich is also a co-Founder and, until May 2012, CEO of StreetLight Data Inc. He served as CEO of Replicate Technologies, Inc., a provider of configuration management technology for virtualized data centers from 2007 – 2010. Prior to Replicate, he co-founded and served as COO of Univa Corporation (now Univa, Inc.), a provider of optimization and management software for conventional and cloud data centers.

Among Telematica’s business and product strategy engagements are industry leaders like PwC, GE Digital, IBM as well as enterprise and governmental organizations pursuing digital transformation.

Miller’s career as advisor, executive, and an early investor, has focused on overseeing the formation of technology companies and their offerings that provide security applications, wireless network infrastructure, and application service infrastructures.

Getting Edge-Y at OpenStack Summit – 5 Ways it’s an Easy Concept with Hard Delivery

The 2018 Vancouver OpenStack Summit is very focused on IT infrastructure at the Edge. It’s a fitting topic considering the telcos’ embrace for the project; however, building the highly distributed, small footprint management needed for these environments is very different than OpenStack’s architectural priorities. There is a significant risk that the community’s bias towards it’s current code base (which still has work needed to service hyper-scale and enterprise data centers) will undermine progress in building suitable Edge IT solutions.

There are five significant ways that Edge is different than “traditional” datacenter.  We often discuss this on our L8istSh9y podcast and it’s time to summarize them in a blog post.
